Amelia - Director/Teacher
Amelia is a fully qualified teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and has been teaching for over 25 years. Amelia graduated from the Queensland Ballet Professional year, where she was trained by Francois Klaus (previous Director of Qld Ballet Company), Robyn White, Janette Mulligan and Paul Boyd. During her time with the Qld Ballet, Amelia performed in the International Gala, The Nutcracker Ballet, and other performances at the Lyric Theatre and Playhouse Theatres, QPAC, Southbank.
In 2000, Amelia founded a school in Rockhampton, Amelia’s Studio of Dance, which ran for 15 years. Amelia prepared students for RAD examinations, with students receiving outstanding results; a total of 13 students received 100% within the first 4 years. Amelia moved to Brisbane and handed ASDance over to her sister, Erin, and together they continued to train students to a very high level and pass on a love of dance.
Amelia was first trained in Rockhampton, by Miss Debra Parker, where she completed all RAD ballet exams, being awarded her RAD Advanced 2 with the highest result, at only 15 years of age. Amelia was awarded the RAD North QLD Bursary and went on to study a diploma in dance at Dance World Studios in Melbourne, where one of her highlights was performing at the Sydney Opera House. Amelia was a semi-finalist in the SODA Ballet scholarships in Sydney and also in the Fonteyn International Awards in London. Amelia was also an Australian Ballet School Interstate Associate.
Amelia has a passion for Classical ballet and an extensive knowledge of ballet technique. She has studied the following dance disciplines; Classical Ballet RAD, Classical Ballet open, Classical Ballet Vaganova method, Contemporary; including Martha Graham technique, Filipino Dance, Flamenco, ADA tap and jazz, CSTD tap and jazz, open tap and jazz, Tapatak Oz, hip hop, national and ballroom. In January 2018, Amelia completed Acrobatic Arts module and is now a registered Acrobatics teacher.
Amelia also studied singing, drama, percussion, piano, violin, mime, dance history, human anatomy, and credits this to the many world leading dance experts she was fortunate to be taught by; this includes Robert Ray, Shirley Treacy OAM, Barbra Everson, John Byrne, Ann Jenner, Mary Mackendry, Brian Nolan, Francios Klaus, Robyn White and Janette Mulligan.
Amelia spent 7 years living in Brisbane, where she was a freelance teacher at various dance schools and also ran her own dance studio. She was a member of the Excelsia Christian Dance Company and enjoyed combining her faith and dance in a powerful ministry. Having returned to Rockhampton, Amelia currently runs Gracemere Dance, a dance program at Lighthouse School and teaches classes at her sister’s dance school, Rockhampton Academy of Dancing. Amelia loves to teach dance in an encouraging and fun way, while focusing on strong technique.
Amelia is married to Chris and they have 3 beautiful children. In her spare time, Amelia loves to travel, camp and enjoy nature.
Miss Tilly - Student Teacher
Miss Tilly brings a youthful energy to our weekly dance classes. She is a year 12 student at the Girls Grammar School and works 3 part time jobs, she is motivated and ambitious and a wonderful role model for our students.
Tilly Hodda started dancing at the age of 3 and joined Gracemere Dance when she was 7 years old. Tilly stood out in dance class from a young age, with her enthusiasm, confidence and acrobatic skills. She was selected to join the Extend Program where she trained in ballet, jazz, acrobatics and musical theatre. She has trained in aerial silks and hoops. Tilly won the "Most Consistent Student Award" and was going to take her dancing further, when injury stopped her from achieving her goals. She reframed and turned her focus to become a wonderful student dance teacher at Gracemere Dance and has been invaluable since we re-opened in 2024. The children love her, the parents appreciate her and I (Miss Amelia) have watched proudly as she has matured, learnt and grown as a teacher over the past 3 years.
Miss Sophia - Kindy Groove Assistant
Miss Sophia assists with our tiniest students, our Kindy Dance Program.
Sophia has been dancing since she was 2 years old and loves classical ballet and acrobatics. She is currently studying her grade 4 RAD ballet exam and has been awarded distinction on every exam to date. She is also studying grade 4 and 5 tap and jazz exams, she was awarded honours plus on her exams. Sophia also studies AMEB piano and received an A+ on her last piano exam. Her strong classical ballet skills and musicality are an asset to the children and she beautifully demonstrates for them.
